The Role

AgResearch Statistics team supports scientific research in a range of areas to the benefit of the pastoral agricultural sector. We are seeking two highly motivated and experienced individuals for the roles of Statistician and Senior Statistician. The appointees will advocate statistical principles, working collaboratively with scientists to provide appropriate statistical advice. This is an excellent opportunity to use your experience and knowledge of statistical consulting and collaborative research to contribute to scientific discovery in New Zealand. These are permanent positions and ideally will be located at our Palmerston North campus, however an appointment at our Lincoln campus can be considered for the right candidate.

Key Accountabilities include

For both roles:

  • Design of experiments
  • Modelling, analysis and interpretation of scientific data
  • Contribute to high-quality research and scientific publications
  • Identify and provide appropriate solutions to one-off and ongoing statistical issues

For the Senior role:

  • Have full responsibility for the statistical aspects of scientific research projects
  • Make a significant contribution to scientific research through the application of innovative and/or specialised statistical methods
  • Mentor junior members of the team

About you

  • As a minimum have a postgraduate degree or advanced diploma in statistics or a closely related field
  • Have experience in statistical consultancy/collaboration
  • Be proficient in statistical packages such as R, Genstat, SAS
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to articulate complex technical information to collaborators
  • Be willing to upskill in order to meet the challenge of new scientific data (capability in big data analytics would be an advantage)

In addition, for a senior appointment you should

  • Have a PhD in Statistics (or a closely related field) or have extensive experience in statistical consulting
  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in statistical consulting and collaboration
  • Be able to demonstrate thought leadership ability in statistical science
