Data Scientist / Artificial intelligence / Machine Learning Specialist
Plant & Food Research is a New Zealand-based science company providing research and development that adds value to the fruit, vegetable, crop and food sectors. Our science supports the sustainable production of high quality produce that earns a premium in international markets.
This is an exciting career opportunity for a Data Scientist to lead and support our Artificial Intelligence (machine/deep learning) projects, providing high impact Artificial Intelligence (machine/deep learning) analysis across a range of research projects including working closely with lead Scientist Andrew Kralicek developing and building a model for a “biological electronic nose” that could have a number of positive commercial applications. Other projects include: 3D image analysis of fruit trees to predict yield, and computer vision detection of plant diseases. You will work closely with our science staff and industry partners whilst building and maintaining international connections in the Artificial Intelligence field.
As a minimum, you will have an MSc in Data or Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or related fields, and ideally 2 or more years’ experience but we will consider exceptional recent PhD graduates. You’ll have a broad knowledge of Artificial Intelligence applications such as machine learning, deep learning or computer vision, and advanced skills in programming (preferably Python or R). You’ll also have good scientific writing and oral presentation skills and a proven ability to conduct research projects. Your ability to contribute to and produce peer reviewed scientific publications and presentations in project meetings and international conferences will be a strong advantage.
