We are advertising a fixed term lecturer in statistics position for 1 year in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Otago University in Dunedin, New Zealand.
We welcome applications from candidates with research expertise in any area of statistics. This opportunity is ideal for recent graduates with a PhD in Statistics (or equivalent) looking to develop their career in an academic environment.
The successful applicant will also have:
- Evidence of research productivity.
• Demonstrated success and/or aptitude in teaching Statistics.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
The Statistics Group at Otago is a lively, successful group, committed to teaching and research excellence in statistics and data science. Research strengths of current staff include ecological and environmental statistics, stochastic modelling, point processes, Bayesian inference, hidden Markov models, scoring rules, model-averaging, over-dispersion, clinical trials, epidemiological methods, quantitative genetics, and statistical genetics. We have research links and collaborations with other research groups, locally, nationally and internationally. We work on motivating applications in diverse subject areas including ecology, earth and environmental sciences, genetics, epidemiology, health sciences, chemistry, food science and sports science.
