Student and Early Career Statisticians Network (SECS)

Our Vision

The NZSA Student and Early Career Network (formerly Young Statisticians Network) exists to support the next generation of statistics practitioners by providing a forum for networking, mentoring, outreach and professional development. The network aims to provide opportunities for SECS to actively participate in the statistical community.

Who is the Student and Early Career Statisticians Network for?

The SECS Network is for all students studying statistics or related disciplines at any level at a NZ tertiary institute and all early career statisticians that have graduated within the last 10 years.

What do the Student and Early Career Statisticians do?

Every year at the NZSA conference there is SECS Network event. There are also local events held around the country throughout the year. These include social gatherings, networking events, presentations, and career evenings. These events are a great way to make new connections and to keep up to date with the happenings in the wider world of statistics in a relaxed and social environment. See our events page for details of upcoming events or contact your local SECS rep about being added to the mailing list.

The Statistical Society of Australia also have an active community of student and early career statisticians. They hold a biennial Young Statisticians’ Conference. This is a great forum to meet other SECS outside of New Zealand and attending this conference is encouraged. The 2017 YS Conference will be held on the Gold Coast in September. We are working to strengthen the relationship with our Australian counterparts over the coming years.
